This service primarily aims to support researchers, other authors, and companies in publishing a book or preparing a document in English or another major European language.
1. Typical cases where this service is sought:
- When researchers prepare papers for submission to overseas academic conferences andjournals.
- When authors publish English versions of their books which are already published in other languages.
- When companies in non-English–speaking countries prepare English reports
2. Main service items:
- Editing: Editing of manuscripts and other documents prepared in English and otherEuropean languages to improve quality. Peer review by experts in relevant fields is also available. LRI can mobilize a number of excellent editors.
- Book production and publication: After creating the layout of the text and the cover, publication is done using Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) and/or other similar self-publishing platforms. This (self-publishing) arrangement allows Amazon to handle printing and delivering books to customers worldwide upon receiving an order, while authors receive a portion of the sales revenue from Amazon. Instead of using Amazon’s free ISBNs (International Standard Book Numbers), authors will use LRI’s ISBNs for their books. This allows for broader distribution beyond Amazon, while utilizing Amazon KDP’s on-demand printing service, which effectively eliminates initial publishing costs. There is also the traditional publishing method of printing large quantities at once and negotiating distribution with major book distributors and retailers. In either publishing method, LRI deposits a copy of the book with the British Library.
- Book Marketing: Amazon’s services alone cannot ensure a book reaches a wide audience. Without marketing, the chances of a book appearing in internet searches using its title are close to zero. LRI first proposes a marketing and sales strategy tailored to the author’s budget and needs. Simultaneously, a book biography is published on LRI’s website (both free of charge). Marketing options include social media promotion, press releases, third-party reviews, book club referrals, and Google services. Creating an author’s website and using it as a basis for promotion is also effective. LRI can develop such websites at a low cost using a LRI prototype.
3. Service Fees
Fees vary depending on the content and completeness of the manuscript. For example, if editing is not required, only final proofreading by LRI staff is needed, and a clear idea for the cover design is provided, the cost of producing a book of approximately 200 pages and publishing it via Amazon KDP would be around £1,500.
